Shin Mazinger is the remake of Mazinger Z by the same director of Giant Robo and G Gundam.
At first, I didn't like it so much because it was average at best, but then, series got really good in the second half.

(Mazinger Z is the first Super Robot show to hit Japan (1972), Shin Mazinger is a remake with a new story). It's an important piece of anime story. Gurren Lagann and the likes owe a lot to it.
