How Much Do You Spend on Costumes?

GOSH EXPO IS NOW SO CLOSE, YEAAAAAAAAAAH.
I AM SITTING BORED IN ITC AND MY EXITEMENT HAS REACHED RIDICULOUS LEVELS AFTER BROWSING THIS SITE FOR AWHILE.

I WAS JUST WONDERING ABOUT EVERYBODIES COSINGS FOR COSPLAY OUTFITS...

I'M DOING BATTLE ROYALE THIS YEAR WITH A FEW FRIENDS AND HAVE MANAGED TO GET MY RAW MATERIALS FOR ONLY £14 EACH, LAST YEAR MY HYATT (OF EXCEL SAGAS) WAS UPWARDS OF £40. WELL ANYWAY... I WAS JUST ASKING MYSELF WHAT IS TOO EXCESIVELY EXPENSIVE WHEN MAKING YOUR COSPLAY?
ANY THOUHTS??

Lmao! hee hee you think £40 is expensive most of my costumes are about £200 >.< even my cat girl was insanely expensive and there isn't much of it, the wig contributed some what to the cost but it is amazing quality ^^

It's really hard to say. I've seen professionaly commissioned costumes go for upwards of £400 so...yeah LOL and the Master Chief costume that Oz owns wasover £1000 from what I hear.

It's all relative to the costume and how much money you have. Me personally, I'd never pay over like £150 for costume parts. But again, depends on what the costume is.

I think it depends on my costumes. My Jiraiya one started out pretty cheap but with all of the stuff I've gotten for it now (Geta, Rasengan-like thing, Frogs, a better wig etc.) the amount kinda went up ^_^' At least it wasn't all at once!

Me too. I try to get things for as cheap as I can unless I really really have to pay more and its not possible to get cheaper elsewhere.

It depends on what you're making. As Tom and I recently found out, feathers are EXPENSIVE LMAO

Some costumes are cheaper to buy online, but it'll probably be lower quality fabrics etc.

Being jobless and underage for a job ANYWAY, I manage to make my cosplays by hunting around the local market- they have some fantastic deals and cheap yet quality items.
Zips are 50p, fabric is £1-2 per square metre, props like gloves and such are £2 for a pair, etc.

You can get prices like that in markets around London. I was pretty impressed that Elsa could get 3 metres of PVC for under £5 and 3 metres of Leather for less than £7.

You're right in that shopping around is the best LOL Feathers, GOOD feathers, are not that easy to find LOL

3m of leather for less than £7? O_O Now THAT'S why I call cheap! I wish where I lived there were a load of fabric market stalls! TT_TT All we get are little food stalls every now and then! D8

My costumes USED to be cheap as I did a lot of closet cosplay [w00t! XD]... But I'm moving on from closet cosplay now... and realized just how expensive cosplaying really is xD;; I mean Sakura is already coming up to around £50! TT_TT Without mistakes that is... Garnet has cost a fortune due to the numerous amounts of wonderful mistakes I've made on a simple accessory xD. I try to keep it under £50 for each costume... clearly that's failing though! XD [Garnet and Haine are ALLOWED to have a budget of £100 though... Only because I treat their costumes special-y xD]

And wow zips for 50p? I neeeeed to go to your town! XD That's so cheap! Unlike the rip off zips which are around £2-5! XD;; Apart from the odd sale for super long zips for £1... But I don't need a super long zip unless it's for mascots... and I'm not doing a mascot til around Oct time T_T [Unless I change my mind and instead of doing secret cosplay for JapEx I do a mascot instead]

It varies for me how much I spend for each costume, I think Pharaoh Atem was my most expensive XD
I get my fabrics from a shop in Lewisham & I get my other materials from Turtles in Croydon like foam, wire, paint etc ^_^

Coooome to Northampton for cheap bargain zips that don't break as soon as you fasten them on 8D

Northampton and M ilton K eynes (why is M K banned, like B irmingham is?!) have some excellent markets - these are all I have witnessed so far =(

Best market for cheap and quality fabrics I have been to so far was in Albania lol. Zips are about 30p and you can get 3m of leather for £2 something. Not to mention that if you go just before they shut they give you lots and lots of fabrics and bits and bobs for free! Probably not worth going to another country for but if you just happen to be there keep an eye out lol.

On topic, the most I have spent on a costume so far is £300.

Gah! Everyone is lucky with all these cheap zips! I have to re-use the majority of my zips as... well I don't particulary like being ripped off xD;; Unless my previous zips are well-off colour-wise

And M ilton K eynes is probably banned as there's a convention held there in May this year... Same reasom as B irmingham. And gah! I live no where near Northampton or M ilton K eynes! D8

This is going to be the most expensive costume/expo in general so far. I've already spent:

£30 for wig/wig cap/delivery
£20 for boots
and almost £8 on feathers. Yeah.. They were really nice feathers, though.

And that's just so far. I still need to get the pens for wig-colouring, make up and all the materials for the main body of the costume. Add to that the ticket price, £30+ for the train, spending money and my share of the hotel fee, and I'm pretty much screwed.
