I think this is a good idea. Music video contest categorized into anime, TV shows and gaming would be great imo.

Yeah I See Your Point. They've Just become such a big part of anime on youtube and a lot of fans create them so people often forget that fansubbing is illegal and so is making AMVs.

And here i was thinking expo was the perfect time/place to undermine authority.

I'm sure if you use footage from your own DVD's and Song's you have bought it is Legal.

There's been a news statement about using it.

Because when people make AMV's it's hard to know whether it was piracy copies of clips or real ones.

Plus you're using anime clips for your own benefit to win a contest, if making anything with someone elses work is for a form of gain it is illegal, and no matter how low the contest is, you'd be fined i think.

Plus its publically showing them too, unless the con were to buy the rights to do such things (wayyy to expensive), it isnt really possible without being fined or worse.

Unless the Expo was allowed to pledge for a liscence so that people who use footage (That is LEGAL) wouldn't be sued for it.

My College has something like that for when we want to get a song and save the trouble of having to fill out forms for rights of a song.

You pay a shectload of money for licensing fees for both the music and video footage THEN, ONLY THEN will it be remotely legal. Even at that the DVDs used are only for HOME USE anyway so there for you'd be breaking the law further still by doing this.

And also I'm pretty damn sure I've posted pretty much the same here before the expo.
