Did you meet any people that had upset you in any way?

I understand that the MCM Expo is a time for having fun, meeting people and just general socialising with other people who share a common intrest with yourself. However I have seen people who have taken there "enjoyment" too far and who have upset people, and the worst thing is they continue on doing this oblivious to the fact that they have upset people.

People over the age of 12 should still have some decency, responsibility and respect towards other people no matter where they are, it is called "common certousy". However people use the MCM Expo as an excuse to revert back to childs and lose all sense of decency and involve complete strangers in their actions when they might severely be upset by them.

How I was affected was I was having a conversation with an old friend when without forewarning a girl of about 18 years of age stole my hat right off the top of my head and ran off with it and disappeared into the crowd. My hat keeps my wig in place and without it, it starts to fall apart. Not only did the girl rudely interrupted the conversation with my friend but she had in fact legally speaking stolen my hat.

A thought ran in my mind "if I cannot find her, and she cannot find me, then how does she return my hat?" the answer is "she doesn't" what does she care? the hat is not hers so she can do whatever she wants with it, it was by chance I had spotted her when the crowd cleared. Words escaped me so I simply went up to her and took my hat back from her hands, and in that time she did not even utter an apology.

It might sound like a very minor problem, but I would just like to make it clear that what you might find fun, others might dislike completely, so there should be absolutely no reason to involve random strangers without forewarning. If the girl had politely asked for my hat, I would have let her borrow it, but no she didn''t have that decency, but instead the cowardice to run off with it.

I apologize If I have bored anybody, I would just like to see if anybody else was effected by other peoples actions that they disliked, maybe if props were stolen or costumes were ruined, and please can no names be mentioned.

I think you get couple bad annoying people every year unfortunatly, I really didn't notice it till this year though.
probabilly my costume this year something inside people. I've always had fun at expos in the past but i went home early feeling quite upset by some comments shouted at me. I was thinking of not returning next year, but a thought about it abit more and realised most my day was good and I had handler/ spotter if people really bothered me.
I think this behaviour should be stopped people don't go to be judged and abused, especailly when sterotypes tend to be very wrong.

People get hyperactive and feel like they are in a group of close friends, forgetting that they are in fact surrounded by strangers. Being in cosplay unfortunately connects you to a set of behaviours that are perceived as acceptable simply because you are in costume, much as different social rules apply for costumed workers at theme parks.

It's not a great situation, but sometimes people take things too far, like the girl you mentioned. All you can do is try and make your displeasure known, but then there will always be someone new coming in and eating too much sugar. Just one of those things, at cons.

Incidentally, someone actually passed me an Urahara hat (putting it on my Ragnarok puppet) and I asked her whose it was, only to be told she didn't know. I told her to give it back.

The only people that annoyed me were the people playing with the ball outside. They had no respect for anyone else around them. They were playing near the giant billboard with some of them up on the grassy hill bit and some on the ground. They hit the ball to each other but were playing over some people that were happily just sitting on the wall. Quite often, the ball would accidentally hit people sitting on the wall, people walking past and people sitting around on the grass. Whenever it happened, all they said was 'oops' and laughed before getting their ball back off of them.
At one point the ball smacked a girl in the face very hard and all of those playing just laughed. I was very close to going over to them and saying something, though of course if they didn't care about anyone now they wouldn't care with me talking to them.

I was hoping the ball hit me because I would've popped the damn thing.

And though I didn't personally see them or have an issue with them, the V masked 'Anons' they were causing trouble are almost sickening.

Personally nothing really happened to me, but these kind of stories do worry me. I feel sorry for anyone who was upset, and anger towards anyone causing the upset.

(Almost) everyone comes to Expo to have fun, and they don’t want to have their one lasting memory of the day being someone who was rude.

The only people who kinda upset me were the group of cosplayers from the same anime as me when there was a picture to be taken one of them went "Budge budge" to me and my friends, kinda made us feel unwanted so we left.

Also it annoyed me to see random 8-10 year olds running infront of people and their pictures and not saying sorry I know they're kids and trying to have fun but yeaah xDD

After the games...or towards the end...my wallet and phone was taken from the side, and to be honest, it could not have been anyone apart from cosplayers.

It's your responsibility to look after your valuables. I keep them especially close to me in such crowded places... cosplayers or not, I know that thieving scum will be around waiting for opportunities. Don't give them the chance to take advantage of the situation... Remember how many goods were stolen last May? I sure as hell think it wasn't just the non-cosplayers who stole that much stuff.

Also, the only thing pissing me off were people calling me Michael Jackson. J/K (kind of...), but for the love of God, is there anyone out there that is able to recognize characters that aren't from Naruto/Bleach/DN/FF/KH? :|

Pretty much. I also find it funny when people cosplay certain characters and don't know what they are famed for.

its interesting when they choose interesting out of the ordinary costumes.
I know at one costume event someone came with a huge piece of cardboard decoated to look like a facebook profile, and there is a square cut out where the profile photo is meant to be and the guy looked through there.

There was also someone who cosplayed one of the prime characters from 'Girlchan in Paradise', absolutely epic.

My wig and eyeliner didn't arrive in time for my Gaara costume so I just went without and I had people shouting "fail Gaara" and "you're not Gaara" etc. This quite upset me because I spent about 3 weeks making the costume and quite a bit of money on it. Whats worse is I saw another girl who also didn't have the wig or eyeliner but, from what I saw, she got no stick because she was in a group >.< In the end I bought a plushie and hugged it the rest of the day and called myself 'chibi Gaara'.

my biggest gripe is on the saturday after the masquerade...
there was a ginormous rush for people goin out and queues down eisles, people where very considerate of my mums dress and kept well back when some "Idiot" cosplaying as superman tries to jump past everyone landing on the back of the ursula dress that took 3 months in total to complete and totally tore the back part of the dress... needless to say my mum (who was the one in the dress) was seethin... all we got was a grunt and he ran off.... if i wasnt in my costume (at the time i was pak-kun) i woulda run after him and had a few words.. i eman ... the back dress along cost me over £70.. and with his impaitence and incosideration it was ruined......
all day we had walked around the hall outside and in the actual event (and everyone knows how packed it was in there) and not one person trode on it, i thinnk there was only 2 who actually clipped it a little but they were so appologetic.... but then you go to a area where u have to queue up and a idiot decides he doesnt want to wait...
if this idiot is reading this.. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.. its now gonna cost me over £50 in repairs which may mean it wont be used for midlands due to time!!!
(what makes this worse is i see his picture everytime i look in the cosplay fever book... "erghhhhghghghg"....

Ugh, I'm amazed out how nasty some people can be. It annoys me more when it's people not even in costume who make these comments, but it's downright mean regardless.

And Kyothekat, I saw your mum’s Ursula cosplay, it must have taken an awful lot of effort to make that costume, and to have somebody ruin it like that is awful. Cursed impatient rushy people! He could of at least apologised.

I had someone point and laugh at me, calling me a ‘dork,’ which in all truth was very fitting for my character (Sheska from FMA). Also overheard somebody call me a rubbish Hawkeye...

*sigh* I shall try to go as something more recognisable next time! Thankfully the majority of expoers were lovely!

I cannot tolerate this. October was my first expo and I thought the atmosphere was amazing. You could literally go up to anyone and suddenly be friends, of course the line gets a little sketchy around the point of immature behaviour aka fangirls and fanboys. That's righting off the possibility of trolls etc. Doing something like that just spoils the fun and isn't the least bit fair on anyone. Nobody upset me really at expo (if anything they welcomed me in quite nicely) but I heard stories of people abusing the free hugs sign and surprise hugging everyone they see against their will. Hopefully people'll learn to have a little respect for their peers (so to speak).

I am sure I am not alone when I say this but when you go to the MCM Expo for the first time it will be absolutely fantastic and breathtaking, however after going to the MCM Expo 5 or 6 times onwards, it starts to lose its flair and originality that you first fell in love with in the beggining.

Personally I thought the Expo was "okey" it was a nice day out in my opinion but it has been much better in the previous times I have been

Was my third time going and I still find it breathtaking and undescrible, hopefully that feeling will remain for future expo's. As it's only twice a year it shouldn't get old and should still be exciting.
