I cannot tolerate this. October was my first expo and I thought the atmosphere was amazing. You could literally go up to anyone and suddenly be friends, of course the line gets a little sketchy around the point of immature behaviour aka fangirls and fanboys. That's righting off the possibility of trolls etc. Doing something like that just spoils the fun and isn't the least bit fair on anyone. Nobody upset me really at expo (if anything they welcomed me in quite nicely) but I heard stories of people abusing the free hugs sign and surprise hugging everyone they see against their will. Hopefully people'll learn to have a little respect for their peers (so to speak).

I've got to say, I even know of some people who were going around with a free hugs sign, as they said, "because of the girls". Believe it or not, to them, that one fleeting contact with a girl will generate enormous amounts of sexual stimulus, a sensation which most people who spend their day at home watching anime will rarely ever taste. So during expos to them, it's like they hit the jackpot. I literally cracked up laughing when I saw the way they hugged... So excited as if they scored on the girls or something... it was kinda cute and sad at the same time, but whatever. To each their own, I suppose.

Still, I do find it rather creepy that people go around hugging for that reason. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind people asking me for a hug, but I do mind people going around seeking some sort of "sexual thrill" out of touching a stranger in a very non-sexual manner... Doesn't get any creepier than that. :s

My third time at an expo too and I love it ^^ I'm 18 although you'd never think so given the way I look/act XD

I like all the free hugs signs because it's like everyone's sharing the expo love and nobody is shut out or anything like that ^^ I dunno about other peoples er..ulterior motives shall we say ^^; lets just keep it within the full-body-handshake (Er, probably sounds more..ulterior like that =P) and so on ^__^

No but seriously, besides these guys I mentioned, I have known people who do actually waste most of their social life away by browsing the internet. They're not even otaku's, just internet addicts. Some were, and still are addicted to MMO's. Others simply love the internet in general because they seem to get a feeling of satisfaction acting badass on a forum board, hiding their insecurities and completely changing personality on the net. Unfortunately, those are not stereotypes. People actually do that. And especially nowadays, people with various insecurities DON'T HAVE TO try and fit into society anymore. They can simply go back home and be whoever they want to be on the net. Mind you, that's still social interaction. But not necessarily the kind that would get you much action with the girls, if you know what I mean. Lawls. And sorry if that sounds mean, but it's the truth. <3

And by no means am I saying that all free huggers are like that. As I said, I don't mind free hugs at all. I even enjoy them sometimes, some people just give out that sweetness which can make your day brighter.

I am sure I am not alone when I say this but when you go to the MCM Expo for the first time it will be absolutely fantastic and breathtaking, however after going to the MCM Expo 5 or 6 times onwards, it starts to lose its flair and originality that you first fell in love with in the beggining.

I'd say there is an element of truth to this.

My first Expo was actually back in May 2005 (and it was quite small back then compared to how it's grown today). The following Expo in October that year was bigger and better.

Now maybe it's like chiok says, it loses it's appeal, or it's because of ones own age and other priorities taking over, but I then went rarely and then just stopped altogether.

However, after being away for so long I went again in May this year (with my younger sister). Because I hadn't been for ages, I really enjoyed it then.

No one upset me at this expo. Only thing I will say that annoyed me, was the guy by the DDR section on Saturday just shouting constantly. I'm pretty sure he was a staff member and someone told me he was told to stop after a while. Not sure if that's true, but credit to the staff member that did if that's true.

Oh dear, that is just a little creepy. They're basically ruining everything the free hugs sign stands for. I was under the impression it was supposed to represent how the event brings us all together, but then the shut ins come and turn it into an "OH MY GAWD, SOOOO HAWT!" sausage fest.

Pretty much same here just a sentence shorter. I might not go to a couple and still if te buzz returns or get more into the forum activity before the expos? but that being said ithought it was way too busy on saturday which is great for most people who go both days but for us who go one it was particularly great( seeing as sundays are a lot less busy i might stick to them)
