I agree entirely with Lady Bahamut waaaay back on page one. We need to have one down south west way. What are we, invisible?

I think that as both of us cosplay staff live down here in the south west it is pretty much a given. Still, until it happens lets face it we've got a lot of clubs and socials and so on down here.

Once we've done the first one it'll give us a much better idea of what is involved for planning more. From people's addresses who enter the masquerades, I know that most parts of the country will welcome us with open arms. I'm quite up for it as it gives me an excuse to visit friends that I've never gotten around to driving around.

Oh- and wherever we go, I'm counting on you all to tell us which is the best nearby pub with good, cheap food for the evening after!

I'm not biased at all...... [I admit Taunton may not have very big venues, I can hope!]

I hope they bring one to the South West sometime soon, I look forward to it with much anticipation : D

Petition update - 79 signatures!
Facebook group - currently 51 members.
Norwich Society of Anime & Manga - Approximately 25 regulars.
UEA Anime Society - Approximately 25 regulars as well (hoping for more in the coming academic year).

Of course, some of these numbers will be duplicates on the websites.

And! We've also got affiliations with Toymation (they're new), Kamika-z, Anime-On-Line, and United Publications now.

Admin, is it alright to add an affiliation link for MCM on the site?

Aberdeen, Glasgow or Edinburgh.

It's too expensive for me to go to London twice a year...
Me and my friends and their friends wish you guys can come anywhere in Scotland ;_;

Whether it heads to Cornwall, Manchester, Newcastle, Glasgow, Cardiff, or wherever I'm pretty sure I can use it as an excuse to see friends :P

Quick suggestion.

I can't imagine Andover and Basingstoke being a hotbed for cosplay.

Southampton just to the south of you has a very large number of cosplayers though.

89 signatures and counting for East Anglia! - the Norwich side of East Anglia anyway as the Hertfordshire one is the far western side of it - (some people have joined the group on Facebook who haven't signed - perhaps they dislike signing petitions online due to being cautious of their personal details?) Anyhow, the facebook group now has 61 members.
I also recently made a fan page for it too.

Admin, or even Granny Gertrude, if/when considering the area, can someone give me an idea of the kind of space you'd be looking at. I've sent e-mails but not had a reply yet. I think the two biggest places to attempt would be the Sports Village and the UEA campus - though there are other smaller venues available.
Also, Raye mentioned she sent an e-mail about the idea of us giving out fliers for our group at the expo in October, and she's not heard back from that enquiry. We actually haven't made them yet (there was an event last week which has set Raye back a little), but wondered if it would be acceptable if we happen to get some made?

With AniMedia East, hopefully we can get a more permanent event happening at some point in the future if we can pull some smaller ones off first. That's why we thought your roadshow would be perfect to begin with.

Petitions never work - even when they get recognised...(for example, StarCraft 2 petition to add LAN play had/has a ridiculous number of signs and the company (Blizzard) even commented on it - but didn't do anything about it)

Then again, prove me wrong. :)

I wouldn't say petitions never work- Slimdefinition's enthusiasm and efforts have certainly been noticed and I'd be very surprised if an East Anglia date didn't get announced (although I'm not sure if more dates will be announced before or after October Expo).

Slimdefinition: I'm not usually involved with booking venues. I'll have a better idea after next weekend- I'm really hoping it goes well but I'm not yet sure what to expect!

Hi Slim

Thank you for all of your contiuned enthusiasm and contrary to the previous posters remark about petitions not being taken into account please be aware that they are and we vue loyalty very highly.

Please do drop paul@mcmexpo.net a line peronally again as I am sure he will be happy to hear from you with regards to future plans.

As we have our first Cosplay Roadshow event next week I would imagine quite a lot will be hanging on this to be a success in many different so hopefully people will support the first one to start with.

In the mean time keep going and we look forward to announcing some news on future Cosplay Roadsho events after Wolsey Hall next week.

This is heavily off-topic, but http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/60156 - Blizzard have listened, but it's all in the interests of copy protection they have to keep you logged into Battle.net whilst your actual game packets go via LAN. So they have commented on it =)

Getting back on track, first events are always going to be different, testing the waters and so on. It's great to see that the staff at MCM are keeping an eye on things, and hopefully if next weekend is a success we'll see more of the Cosplay Roadshow in future =)

Yeah, I already said they commented on it. With the number of signs they had, you'd think they'd ignore the piracy thing and put LAN in anyway. I forgot the specifics of the system they have in place instead...

Wasn't it something like one computer needs to connect to battle.net?

Anyway, I'm glad that this petition is finally getting somewhere. It seemed like it was one of the majority of them that just got overlooked (yes, they do rarely make an impact - I'm glad this one did though)

I just figured it was worth posting something in order to get a response...

Thank you for your comments, and for the clarification that my efforts have been recognised (please consider Raye as well because she's put an awful lot of effort into this too). She hasn't be around this week due having received some very sad news, but hopefully she'll be back with her efforts for AniMedia East shortly.

As you know, we've already gathered some support from a few of the companies that regularly attend the expo events, and have affiliations with them on our websites. Raye has been the best person for gathering those!

If you could let me know how next weekend goes, and what I might be able to do by means of gathering more information etc afterwards, that'd be good. I've set up another e-mail address for this specifically - mel_animedia_east@yahoo.co.uk
I wish I could go, but unfortunately JSA pays peanuts and the October expo is uhh, where my luxury fund is going.

it would be good if one could come to Scotland!! I'm in Dundee but something within the central belt of Scotland would be good such as Glasgow or Edinburgh or both.

i have a several anime lover/cosplaying friends who live in aberdeen who would also appreciate it being there as there seem to be no decent gatherings for cosplaying and anime above Dundee

Just wanted to say good luck with the first roadshow event at Wolsey Hall tomorrow.

94 signatures on the East Anglia petition now by the way.

Sharingan, just want to let you know I wasn't offended in any way just in case you thought I might have been. It's understandable, because a lot of people put effort into something and nothing ever comes of it. However, like Granny Gertrude and Admin have said, we have been noticed and our enthusiasm/loyalty is welcomed and will hopefully pay off.
Currently AniMedia East is comprised of two people - in terms of running it - and that's myself and Raye. It has been Raye who has been the one mainly gathering the support from a few other publishers/companies who also regularly attend the expo as well. Right now I suppose it's just a fan group, but I hope someone somewhere will like it enough to take it on as a bigger project some time in the future and revolutionise the area of the UK I'm in. That's why I'm putting my all into this. So many other things I've tried having had a great passion for have failed miserably and damned if I'm going to let this kind of opportunity pass me by. As well as wanting to bring this kind of event to my area, I would most definitely love to gain experience and find a job in this industry that will allow me to work on it in the region as well. However, we need to keep making the right steps if any of us are going to reach the end of a journey or achieve a goal. There was a poster on a classroom wall at school of a basketball player taking a shot, and the text on top read "100% of the shots you don't take don't go in."

I continue to be optimistic and passionate about this.

Whee, it's tomorrow it's tomorrow! *squees*

For other locations I would love it if you came to Durham or Newcastle during uni term time :D (yes, I'm greedy and want to go twice xD) Cambridge is fairly accessible and has the whole uni market again, and has direct trains from a lot of places so should be popular if you're thinking of holding one there.

Hi everyone!
The cosplay roadshow is cheshunt was all really fun. :D
I saw loads of people there including: The hyper Sasuke, Near, Klavier Gavin (who I totally fangirled over), A sage Naruto, the Akatsuki, Kingdom Hearts gang, One or two Bleach cosplayers and so on.

You might have seen me there I was the chuunin Sasuke who was very shy and quiet with my sugar-fuelled orange clad genin Naruto.
