Anyone going to Memorabilia?

Chat generally about the November 2008 MEMORABILIA show at the NEC Birmingham

I haven`t been to the last two shows but did go to all the rest, right from the very first. In the early years there must have been several hundred stall holders selling some great vintage collectables. The past few years stall s have dwindled and those there sell mostly new stuff, the reason i stopped going i suppose. The cost also as rocketed, especially car parking fees!
Any way Good luck to the new firm MCM,i`ll be there in November to have a look.
See you all there!

Yep I'm coming along.

edit: Darn it! MCM seem to have dropped the Memorabilia Spacegirl Icon from the website and have a new logo.
So it's likely that no one will know who I am cosplaying now. Need to re-think cosplaying plans... :?

Actually I will be doing crossplay (- people tell me I am convincing enough).

Sat I am doing the Memorabilia girl (silver spacesuit).
I've only seen a Memorabilia girl once at the show, and I'm not sure if she was a cosplayer or if she was sponsored by the organisers..just in case there are two of us walking around on Sat ^^D.

Then on Sun I will be doing Michelle Pfeiffer version Catwoman if it is finished in time, (or the purple Jim Balent comic version Catwoman if it isn't).

I would like to get some good pics from the show for the Ccom forum.
Hope to meet you cosplayers at the show...

Yep tis me. ^^D ha ha ha
I'm on cosplay com too (same name) if you want to see some of the in progress costume pics - just don't show your dad and definitely don't print off any pictures for him! ..you know what he's like - or it'll be like feeding time at the dog pound on thursday evening with me as the main course. Keep it under your hat just for now..mate, pal, friend.

The Mars cossie is coming along nicely. I think you will be pleasantly surprised actually... No preview pics of it yet but it will def be ready for the midlan Expo.

Are you and Ghost still coming with a bus load of cosplayers or have they started ducking out :?:

I live in the North West, about an hours drive from manchester, so i don't get to go to a lot of these events as they're so far to the south =[, I'm going to the Midlands Expo in september however, which should be fun (cosplaying too) so if all goes well there and i'm impressed with the way MCM run things i should be coming to this years Memorabilia aswell, it's closer to me than the Telford one too so i'm already pleased with that :)

Hopefully i'll be getting a group of friends together to go cosplaying, from what i've heard Memorabilia doesn't get as many people cosplaying in comparison to the other shows (ratio wise, i'm well aware that alot more people go to London etc and therefor there will be more people cosplaying) so I'm hoping there will be more this year.

Considering a group naruto cosplay so if i'm there you'll be able to spot us :)

Well we live 6 miles from Manchester and haven't missed a Memorabilia in years ( We must have been amongst the few who regret the Summer Memorabilia died out ! )

The thing about the show is that is supposed to be the biggest TV/Film memorabilia/Toys/Trading Cards show in Europe and has attracted some of the best comic and trading card artists ( and other US based magazines like "Non Sport Update" and media and card producers like Allan Caplan of Inkworks or Robert Kohlbus of Rittenhouse Archives )

That allied with (usually) a good mix of sporting and non-sporting autographing guests plus the UK 51st Garrison etc means its difficult not to find something of interest at the show

Having said all that it was a backward step to stop the reduced price on parking - under both the previous owners there was a discount of about £2 . Doesn't sound much but for 2 people with early bird tickets the costs come in at £40 before any buying...

As with every change in ownership comes various changes within a company.

We have considered many aspects of the event when it was taken over and behind the scenes contactuaral obligations, deals and offers change.

Sorry if the parking is an issue but this is not something that we are able to address with the rising costs of putting th event on.

We have reduced the cost of entry for people in relation to the previous owners.

OK I appreciate the rise in costs but look at the prices for the equivalent November 2007 Memorabilia

"Early bird 15GBP in advance or 16GBP on-the-day
Family early bird 35GBP in advance or 40GBP on-the-day

Standard prices 10GBP in advance or 11GBP on-the-day
Family Standard price 25GBP in advance or 30GBP on-the-day

Child/Senior Citizen 5GBP in advance or on-the-day

Advance booking - save 2GBP on car parking"

Notes : Early birds were just for Saturday, ALL tickets could be booked online and the car parking was reduced.

Compare that with the free-to-park/free-to-enter shopping centre shows and its easy to see why Memorabilia numbers have dropped away over the years

Any possibility you can offer a slightly reduced 2-day early bird for those coming Saturday and Sunday ?

I do hope you can pull Memorabilia around and good luck with this first one :D

I was going to go...but given the cost of tickets it might depend on the guests, and the lateness of the guest announcements.

I have been to many MEMs before now and some have been exceptional with a monumental line-up of guests and others....well, let's just say that we left early on those days. How ever, I am fully intending to give the new folks a chance but, just one thing.....

The guest line-up as it is HAS TO IMPROVE SIGNIFICANTLY. It's OK if you are an older DrWho fan, but at present it is still very weak.

We need a lot more A-Line guests for a pay-to-enter event, and right now...they just aren't there.

Depends on how MCM Expo Telford goes.
Me and my brother were discussing about going to the last one but we missed it. But as its at the NEC and we're brummies, it just depends on funds and how Telford goes. Our first con :D

I really want to go but I want to ask a few questions first...

1) Do a lot of people cosplay? I am an anime/manga fan and I am a bit worried about looking out of place if I come down in cosplay.

2) I think someone mentioned that the manga/anime section is rather small. Is it? cause I don't want to travel all the way to birmingham if that's the case.

3) The ticket you buy... does it cover both days or is it just for one day?

I'd be grateful for any help :)

I agree on the guests thing... I'm not into wrestling OR dr who... I was kinda hoping there would be a nice little manga/anime icon... :)

shame I can't get to london... I quite like Brad Swalie <3 lol.
