Community Meet Up Area

I wanted to ask people if we could set aside a meeting area at Mays Expo for groups to book up for mee tups would people be interested. Nothing special rather like a small theatre with 50-75 chairs.

People could book it up in advance in 30-60 min blocks and let people know ahead of time where there meet is going to be.

Any thoughts?

Well that does sound interesting and can be used to some of the groups - especially how big the Bleach and Naruto groups tend to be! I remember being there one year and we struggled to find room to get all of us in one photo!

Or could actually hold talks for like cosplays? Tips and tricks... or a smaller mascarade?
There are hundreds of ideas that can be used or suggested.

The area would be general purpose so if you wanted to do a talk you could if you want to take photos you could.

I think it's a great idea, although you may want a couple of slots to be kept aside for non cosplay reasons otherwise we'll probably swamp it ^_^

maybe if could be a room set up especially for photographers to take photos of cosplay groups. maybe some good lighting and a backdrop???

We are looking to set a side a meeting are in the main hall.

We are thinking a meeting area that is 50% chairs and 50% open space to allow for multiple use. You would ask for a slot in advance of the show and if there is a space on the day you could also book it. We are looking at ideas which is why we are asking if people would be interested.

Well considering that its Euro Cosplay coming up, a area for some cosplayers to show off their costumes or practice their mascarade routine would be a brilliant space to use - and a seating area will always be great!
A quiet corner for people to rest, as we all know that expo is getting more and more busy, so places where can rest weary feet is hard to find.

As the area is meant for meet ups it will not be a general rest area.

Admin said "there is no plan to charge." below. I believe this does answer your question: there would be no fee, no charge, it would be free to use and included in your ticket price.

That would be helpful in October especially if it rains too much and the group can't meet outside.

That also means that we can fit a large group in another place that isn't the grassy hill. Will the time be effected by how large the group maybe? and will there be someone at the door or a security group to make sure other groups can't take the room if its been booked by someone else?

A meet-up area would be ideal for our meets. I'm part of 3 collaboration channels on YouTube (21 people altogether and then me being admin) and we have a few ex-members and viewers who are doing a meet-up at the entrance on Sunday. There's not a lot of room there and as our meets get bigger every Expo, this would be brilliant.

Hey, I'm kinda new to all this. I havent been to a Expo before and there will be 4 of us cosplaying, how would i go about attending the meet up?

@ willson : for meet ups its simple. firstly u deside who you want to cosplay as and on which day(s). then u goto the cosplay forums and find a group for that anime/game/film/ etc. if you cant find one you start one. once you find the group read its details and see if its something tht intrests if so let them no you want join in the meet and follow the details of the meet to where ever the meet is being held. as a merkat would simples.

@ admins : any idea when we'll no if this will happen or not?

I don't think this will be happening, so the Crazy Collaboration Meet will still be on Sunday from 11am to 12.30pm at the ExCeL entrance (Custom House DLR side). Just inside the doors we do it.
